St. Patty's Day Party @ Puck Around

March/2003
"Wasn't that a Party..." Saturday night a bunch of the SR Gang decided to go out and celebrate St. Patty's day in style at Puck Around Sports Bar. We arrived just as the band was setting up and they were getting organized. I've found in the past that the service is good there, and this time was no different. The bar was decorated for the party all in green with an abundance of clovers and all the staff, including the owner herself, were greeting the patrons and making them feel welcome.
First reason we went was because we wanted to go out, the second was because Asylum was playing. You know you are always going to have a great time to great tunes when they are the band of choice. I proved my point once again as we all had a blast singing along to the Tragically Hip, The Beatles, REM and the list goes on and on. When Ed Brennan belts out the Hip tunes he sounds just like Gord Downie, it's awesome and we don't have to listen while packed in a park, lol. They play together very well and the tunes are always suited to the crowd who often you see doing some chair dancing.
There is something else that happens when Asylum plays, the personal climate of the room becomes really warm. Good karma. They draw in an older crowd and we know all the songs so... we sing along! You can't be miserable while your singing, or some guy down the table is playing air drums. Everyone seems to be laid back and singing along together and really feeling the music. It's a recommended experience for sure!
The patrons danced and looked to be having a great time, enjoying the atmosphere and the music. Some really got into the part as I saw a guy in a green hat, with green suspenders and green clovers on his white socks. Quite impressive. They also handed out door prizes and I think they were hats and shirts, but I'm not sure... as I didn't win any!! Next time you hear that Puck Around is having a Party I definitely recommend you attend. I am honestly surprised that it wasn't busier that night. We had a really good time and it was affordable which is a nice change to going out and paying a fortune for a Canadian. Plus no cover charge... yup, you gotta go, it's fun.... and follow Asylum where ever they are! Asylum Rocks!
