Big Sugar & The Trews

Reviewer: Laura

Wow! What a great show we saw on Friday Night December 12th!  We joined the crowd that gathered at the old Industry/Tequila Rocks to see the farewell concert of Big Sugar and The Trews was certainly a welcome addition! Both these Canadian Bands rocked! I had never even heard of The Trews before and ironically now I tell everyone... these guys are totally awesome! There was such a surge of energy from the four young men you couldn't help but rock, wiggle, jump, whatever it took to feed off this power they embarked upon the crowd. They played quite a few songs for an opening act and I believe each member of the band performed a solo part which were equally amazing. The crowd enjoyed the band so much you would have thought they were the headlining show. These guys are going to make it really big, I can see that coming. Next time they are playing locally they are a great band to see. As always the venue was great. This is one of my favourite locations to see live music although there were a couple things that I would change. First, they have hardly any sitting room. It's fine to have the floor open for dancing but those of us a little older that have worked all day like to sit, relax and enjoy the show around the edges. the other thing was they have no pay phone. Mind you the bouncer was very reassuring that he had just called a fleet of cabs but upon looking outside there were none to be seen and we ended up walking to find a cab instead. They need a phone for sure!

Then came Big Sugar...  WoW! What a great gig! They rocked the house from the first tune they sang right up until 2:15am when their last tune finished. Great tunes like “Diggin’ a Hole”, “If I Had My Way”, “Turn the Lights On” blasted into the crowd. It was a remarkable show. I had never had the opportunity to see them before and they were awesome! I walked in there not even sure what they sang and I walked out singing along to tunes I've heard on our own K106.3. Too cool! The band was very diverse and the karma in the very positive as the crowd sang along with the band cause they knew all the tunes. The crowd varied in age range from the scantily dressed young chicks hovering at the front, to the business exec hanging in the back with earplugs jammin' with the rest of us. Too cool! To the young girls, you know why they call those half shirts? Cause only half off us should NOT wear them. If your tummy sticks out... just don't do it, to us or yourself, lol. Overall I would say this was my second favorite concert I have seen in Sarnia since these reviews started. My favorite still being Nickelback but if had these guys had the same 'extras' it would be a tough call.
