Dave Burrows "The Karaoke Guy"

Had the pleasure of stumbling into Fat Moe's a few Thursday's ago and what a treat I encountered! It was Karaoke night with Sarnia's well known Dave, 'The Karaoke Guy,' Burrows. I had never seen him in action although I had heard of him all over town. When we arrived the place was packed, we went about 10:30 and got the last available table. Ironically we had come from another local bar that was pretty dead so walking into a crowd was a pleasant surprise. It was a real mix of people, older ones already there, settled in their spots and belting the tunes while a younger crowd filed in the door. It was the crowd I expected to see across the street at the Duck. Glad we got a table we settled in and watched the show. The service is great there as the girl was swamped and we never had to wait for a drink. I was also glad to see they renovated the bathrooms as I recall them being much smaller the last time I went there. It looked good in there and quickly even the standing room was full. I don't know what the capacity is in there but they can pack quite a few people in there!
Dave did an excellent show as he did some singing himself while encouraging customers to participate. The people who sang had a variety of tastes which provided a nice selection of music during the evening. I got the feeling as I watched David work the room that he knew many people and had quite a following as the singers seemed very comfortable. Karaoke has really come back these last few years and I see people are really enjoying it, both as participants and to just enjoy as entertainment. They seem really supportive of each other and clapped when they heard a great performance. This is the way many of those people who try out for Canadian Idol get started & practice... at little neighbourhood bars just like Fat Moe's. I heard some pretty good voices out there!
