Grass Roots

Reviewer: Laura

Wednesday December 04/2002 I attended a Grass Roots concert at Hiawatha and to be frank I had no idea who Grass Roots were, sorry gentlemen! But, I am pleased to report I did know some of their tunes, some of which I could even sing along to like "Lets Live For Today". The songs were ones I remember from being a kid years ago as the group were a blast from the past! The audience were obviously more knowledgeable then I as they chair danced in their seats, jammed with the band and laughed in all the right places! It is always fun to watch a crowd that can feel the music and get into the band. They were very personable as they spoke freely to the crowd and remembered the '60's, the parties and the lifestyle. They added in a touch of humour and it generated a warm ambiance throughout the evening. The original lead singer Rob Grill led the band through the session and it was a great concert.

As per usual the service was prompt and efficient and I would like to note here that you can smoke in at least one section that I noticed. Even though I am a non-smoker I like the idea that people have a choice. The ceilings are very high and I couldn't even smell it. (I'm sure some reformed smoker would correct me here!) I think you smokers should take advantage of this!! I really don't understand why I don't see a younger crowd when I go out there because it is always happening music, old or new, the shows are just long enough ( 1 1/2hr tops) and it is just long enough to have a couple drinks.
